Transforming Lives By Providing Specialized Care for Challenging Vision Needs

Overview

The ABC Clinic—an acronym for Amblyopia, Binocular Vision, and Cortical Visual Impairment—was formally established in 2024 as an independent department within Narayana Nethralaya, Bengaluru, to address the growing and complex needs of children with functional and neurological visual impairments. Building upon nearly a decade of focused clinical work, the ABC Clinic represents a significant advancement in the institution’s paediatric vision care services.

Origin and Evolution

The clinic’s journey began in 2016, operating initially as a small unit within Narayana Nethralaya with a core focus on binocular vision anomalies. Under the visionary leadership of Dr. Bhujang Shetty, the department laid the foundation for a specialized service model targeting amblyopia and binocular dysfunction in children.

In 2018, the launch of the “Buds to Blossoms” program marked a pivotal expansion. This initiative introduced a multidisciplinary, holistic approach to managing children with Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI), autism spectrum disorders, and other neurological conditions. A wide range of services, including Visual rehabilitation, Behavioural therapy, Vision therapy, Sensory and motor therapy, Speech therapy, Physiotherapy & Special education were consolidated under one integrated model.
