Lamellar corneal transplants:

Lamellar corneal transplants have revolutionized the management of ectatic disorders and various corneal pathologies by selectively replacing only the diseased layers of the cornea, preserving healthy tissue. At Narayana Nethralaya, lamellar techniques such as DALK (Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty) and DMEK (Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty) form the cornerstone of our corneal surgical practice. With a focus on precision and tissue preservation, these advanced surgeries have transformed outcomes for patients, offering faster recovery, improved visual quality, and long-term stability.

Deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK) – replacing the upper layers of the cornea.

Lamellar procedures – these are specialized corneal transplantation techniques where only the part of the cornea that has the maximum weakness or pathology is transplanted or replaced with healthy donor cornea.

Descemet’s stripping endothelial keratoplasty (DSEK) / Descemet’s membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) – replacing the damaged inner layers of the cornea with a healthy donor tissue.

Femtosecond Laser Assisted Keratoplasty FALK

Laser assisted keratoplasties – One of the few centres in the country to offer keratoplasty using laser precision.

Femtosecond laser assisted keratoplasty (FALK) and Femtosecond endothelial keratoplasty (FEK) – This technique involves a laser to customize the transplant with cuts at specific depths, offering higher precision.

Keratoprosthesis – Keratoprosthesis is an artificial cornea implant procedure used as an advanced treatment option for patients with corneal diseases who are not suitable candidates for standard corneal transplant surgeries.

Pediatric Keratoplasty – Narayana Nethralaya is among the select few centres in the country that perform corneal transplants in children, enabling early visual rehabilitation. Our dedicated team of paediatric ophthalmologists and anaesthesiologists work together to provide specialized care, even for the youngest patients.
