This intensive training program in Cornea/ Cataract and Refractive Surgery is designed for international ophthalmologists seeking to enhance their expertise in cataract management, management of anterior segment disorders such as keratoconus, dry eyes and correction of refractive error. Preference will be given to candidates having clinical experience (preferably in a cornea unit of a multispecialty hospital, as senior resident or junior consultant) before joining.
The curriculum is meticulously structured to provide comprehensive training in the diagnosis, medical & surgical management, and research aspects of corneal diseases, external eye conditions and refractive surgery. By the end of this program, trainees will be well-prepared to practice independently as well-rounded Cornea/ Cataract & Refractive specialists.
Essential Qualifications: International candidates in possession of Post Graduate qualification in Ophthalmology in modern medicine stream (MS Ophthalmology or equivalent). Post Graduate Diploma holders (DO/ DOMS & Equivalent) may also apply. The applicant must be registered to practice ophthalmology independently in his own country.
Desirable Qualification : Ophthalmologists already comfortable with handling operating microscope and having clinical experience (preferably in a cornea unit of a multispecialty hospital, as senior resident or junior consultant) at their hospital/ institute/ center.
The course shall be spread over a period of 12 – 24 weeks depending upon the previous experience and skills of candidate. Course curriculum and duration shall be customized after perusal of resume and interview.
The course fee shall depend on duration and pre-training experience and skill of the candidate. Narayana Nethralaya does not have accommodation facilities. The primary objective of this curriculum is to ensure comprehensive training experience for the fellows in Cataract/ Corneal/ Refractive Surgery progressively leading into development of an individual who is able to establish and manage clinical practice with highest ethical and moral standards in the specified field and is an asset to the society (well-rounded ophthalmologist capable of independent practice and contributing to the field of ophthalmology).
Continued Evaluation
The fellow shall be continuously monitored and counseled by the mentor/ guide on daily basis. The mentor/ guide shall make an endorsement of such counseling guidance in the fellow’s Log Book.
Periodic Evaluation
At the end of each month, the fellow has to present the Log book for the particular month for evaluation by HOD (may be in the form of an excel document via email). The Log book should consist of details of surgeries observed/ assisted/ performed independently, if any, along with list of cases seen or treated.
The candidate will be required to seek permission (in the form of Temporary Registration) from National Medical Commission of India under Section 34 of NMC Act.
