Narayana Nethralaya once again opens the prospect of fellowship training program in Pediatric optometry, pediatric low vision, pediatric contact lens, pediatric dispensing, binocular vision, and neuro – optometry.

The fellowship program has been curated into 18months program, no bond. 

Internship Programmes in Optometry and Ophthalmic Technology

We at NN consider it an obligation to make positive contributions to the field of ophthalmic care.  One of our highest priorities at Narayana Nethralaya is to foster the education of the next generation of practitioners.  All of our learners are allowed to train in state-of-the-art facilities with a full range of clinical and practical experience.

Internship programmes have been conceived with a view to equipping budding optometrists and ophthalmic technicians with essential practical skills in the identification, assessment/ evaluation and management of vision disorders.  We provide them an opportunity to work with state-of-the-art equipment at our hospital under the supervision of well-qualified and highly experienced team members.

The programs are primarily skill-based, hands-on, on-the-job training led by a team of experienced professionals who are committed to providing quality training to selected candidates.  The internship programme aims to enable the development of optometry students who already have a strong academic scientific basis in optometry into key members of the eye care team and to enable them to apply theory to clinical/ reflective practice and execute basic assessment/ planning/ delivery of optometry services.

Duration of the internship program for B Sc (Optometry) students will be 12 months, and for Diploma students (DOT/ DOPT, etc) will be six months.  However, it may be curtailed/ extended to any such period as mandated by Govt/ Board/ University/ College and as mentioned in the sponsorship letter by the Principal/ Head of the Institution.  

B.Sc./Diploma in Optometry, Vision Science, or Ophthalmic Technology from a recognised university, institute, or board. Students will be required to submit a sponsorship letter from the Principal or Head of the Institution where they are currently studying. The letter must clearly state the sponsorship details and mention any scheduled examinations or other academic activities mandated by the board or university that may require the student to take an extended leave of absence.

The trainees will be entitled to a consolidated stipend of Rs 5,000/- per month during the course of the internship for a maximum period of 12 months. 

NN does not have accommodation/ hostel facilities.  Therefore, trainees will be required to arrange for their own accommodation and commute to/ from on their own.

Normally, no leave shall be admissible to interns. However, in cases of emergency or illness, the trainees shall be permitted to avail 6 days of “Sick leave” and 5 days of “Leave for festivals” (including national holidays and religious festivals). Unapproved absence of more than 08 days duration may lead to termination of the internship, subject to the discretion of management.  Minimum attendance required for the award of a certificate is 80%.  

Medium of instruction during the internship shall be English/ Kannada.
